Als kind startte ik al vroeg met piano spelen. Toen ik 5 jaar oud was zei de muziekdocent van mijn school tegen mijn ouders dat ik een duidelijk talent voor muziek had. Ze hebben toen een piano aangeschaft en verder had ik geen keus meer! Daarna volgden 7 jaar basisschool voor muziek en 4 jaar muziekcollege. Dit waren mijn leukste studiejaren waarin ik mij goed heb kunnen ontwikkelen in verschillende disciplines. Ik deed in deze tijd ook mee aan 2 landelijke concoursen. Vervolgens volgde ik 5 jaar conservatorium als uitvoerende en docerend musicus. Dit was voor mij tevens een tijd van emotionele en artistieke ontwikkeling. Ik leerde dat het altijd de moeite loont om door te zetten en ik kijk hier nog steeds op terug als een waardevolle periode in mijn leven. Later in Nederland (2001-2003) heb ik ook 3 jaar orgel studie gedaan en hier een hbo diploma in behaald.

I graduated from Jazz Piano and Electronic Music at the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague and I have taught piano for more than 10 years now. On top of being an experienced music educator, I am also a touring and recording musician, mainly with the alternative rock band Etienne Machine. I have been improvising and composing my own music for as long as I can remember and I love transmitting the knowledge and skills I have accumulated over the years. I started playing the piano at the age of 7 with classical music and then went on to study jazz and pop music, where I discovered improvisation, started writing my own music and decided to continue in this path and follow professional studies. I graduated with a bachelor in jazz piano from the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague, followed by a One-Year-Course of electro acoustic music studies at the institute of Sonology, also at the Royal Conservatoire. Even though I started on my parents' impulse, I continued and decided to do it professionally when I discovered improvisation and started writing my own music and joining bands.

Hoi! Mijn naam is Ilan, ik ben pianist, componist en producer. Toen ik vijf was vonden m'n ouders dat ik cello moest spelen. Dat deed ik braaf, maar ik vond piano spelen eigenlijk leuker. Wat nog leuker bleek te zijn was zelf je eigen muziek schrijven. Ik studeerde dus eerst klassiek compositie aan het conservatorium van Amsterdam. Daarna heb ik cursussen pop-productie gedaan aan de Wisseloord Academy en filmmuziek aan de Film Scoring Academy of Europe. Mijn interesses zijn dus breed: ik kom uit de wereld van de klassieke muziek, maar ik hou specifiek veel van filmmuziek (How To Train Your Dragon, Dune en Star Wars zijn een paar favorieten). Ook heb ik veel pianoles gegeven met popmuziek (Alan Walker, Coldplay, Billy Joël, noem maar op). En ik geef al meer dan 7 jaar pianoles aan alle leeftijden (7-70 jaar). Speciaal voor kinderen heb ik een methode ontwikkelt die veel draait rond liedjes die ze al kennen van de radio, je mag ook altijd zelf muziek kiezen. Ik kan je dus veel leren, of je nu een beginnend pianist bent, een producer die meer wil weten over muziektheorie, of iemand die wel eens vette filmmuziek wil maken? Het kan allemaal!

I’ve added a few more available slots on my lesson calendar, but they are not completely fixed since I sometimes have concerts or rehearsals in the evenings, or I need to reserve time for my own practice. It would be wonderful if someone could take mornings hours slot on a regular weekly basis.Semi-professionals or serious amateurs are very welcome. First of all, I’m glad you found my information here. However, I must say that I’m often disappointed to see many unqualified amateurs presenting themselves as professional pianists or teachers. Because private teaching doesn’t require certification, anyone can advertise themselves as a “piano teacher.” For beginners, it can be difficult to tell the difference — and that can be risky for motivated students. I’ve had several students come to me after taking lessons from such “fake teachers,” and unfortunately, I often had to rebuild their technique from the very beginning. I can relate to this personally. I also struggled for years because my first piano teacher was not able to guide me properly. Only several years later, I was lucky enough to study with teachers who had real experience as concert pianists. Since then, I’ve spent more than ten years retraining myself, rebuilding my technique, and undoing bad habits. It took an enormous amount of effort, but it was worth it. Now I truly understand what went wrong, and you can see some of the results in my videos here. Through this process, I became very aware of how to use my body efficiently and naturally at the piano, and I’ve gained much more flexibility and control. I would be happy to share what I have learned with you.

Mijn groeiende interesse in muziek bracht me ertoe mijn ontwikkeling voort te zetten aan de Rockacademie in Tilburg. Daar verdiepte ik me in popmuziek en rondde ik een minor af in jazz en klassieke piano. Inmiddels kijk ik terug op veel bijzondere projecten en optredens. Zo speelde ik in musicals zoals Lazarus en Forever 27, trad ik op in radioshows zoals 3FM en Radio 2, verscheen ik in tv-programma’s waaronder De Wereld Draait Door, en stond ik op festivals als Bospop, Best Kept Secret en Zwarte Cross. Als sessiemuzikant heb ik met veel inspirerende artiesten mogen samenwerken, waaronder Nona, Oliver Pesch, Thomas Berge en Penny Roox. Daarnaast besteed ik mijn vrije tijd aan mijn eigen muzikale projecten.

After a few years of group lessons and self study I decided to look for a private classical piano teacher. After 6 months of lessons with Seoie I have improved much more than I was expecting. Seoie taught me the fundamentals and how to properly read sheet music in a fun and engaging way. Seoie listens to your goals and encourages to request songs you like to learn. She is a patient and fun teacher who adapts to what her student needs. I highly recommend Seoie if you want to learn or improve on the piano.

My dauther takes lessons with Seoie for several months and she loves it! Seoie is able to find a proper approach to her to keep her motivated and enjoy lessons and pplaying piano at home. At the beginning my kid struggled with communication due to low level of her English and learning in Dutch would help to build connection faster. On another hand it helped my kid to learn English better. Overall I recommend Seoie and we happy with progress.
