Marcello Saracino

My name is Marcello Saracino. I recently obtained a Master's degree from the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag and I have been a drummer for more than half of my life.

Besides playing the drums I write music and I have a band with which I play my originals. I am part of other projects as well, ranging from contemporary jazz to electronic pop, passing through alternative rock.

My love for the drums began when I was 10 years old. I saw this amazing quasi tiger-like finish on a 1969 Ludwig Standard which belonged to my uncle. He eventually cleaned it, fixed it and let me use it.Since that moment my interest for this instrument bloomed and year after year I overcame the early hardship of where my family could fit a drumset in the house and how loud it was going to be for our neighbours. Nevertheless I became more and more passionate about playing and here I am, so many years after, living in a foreign land, trying to make ends meet with my knowledge of music and the drums.

Aside from the strictly musical aspect of the drums, in the recent past I have developed a pull towards learning how cymbals are made, what features give certain sounds and for instance the mechanics of bearing edges or grain in the making of drums. In other words the physical aspect of the instrument.

I have been playing drums for a long time now and I have been fortunate enough to share this passion with many musicians and audiences along the way. (Plus I guess it doesn't hurt to mention that I obtained my master's degree in Jazz drums from the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague in 2024!)

And now I would love to share my passion with students as well!
My lessons focus on you learning to play the music you love. Regardless of level, you decide which approach to take: do you want to know how to hold your sticks and keep a proper posture? Do you want to improve your time feel? Or do you want be able to learn what your idols play on your favourite song?
We will work on whatever you want to improve in the most musical way possible! You set your own goals and I will help you get there.

Because of the structure of these lessons, the student's minimum age should not be lower than ten. It would also be preferrable for me to teach at the student's location.

Since I started playing I was surrounded by musicians who were eager to write original material. This urge eventually transferred to me and became part of my musical identity. The people with whom I wrote my first songs were my early teachers but later I actually studied composition as a part of my master's degree course.

Our lessons will be shaped around your aims as a songwriter. We will discuss influences, style, lyrics and orchestration. During our lessons we will try out your musical ideas and I will help you by playing guitar, keyboard or drums to have a better sense of arrangement.
