About me: Originally from Germany, I moved to the Netherlands to study at the music Conservatory of Rotterdam. I have been playing Saxophone since I was little. During my early teenage years I got obsessed with playing music till I eventually decided to take private lessons. After being accepted to a specialised music boarding-school (where I gaind a solid fundament in music theory, ear-training) and graduating I decided to move to the USA. The birth country of Jazz. There I lived together with kids with special needs, being responsible for their general care, also involving myself in speech and music therapy but still performing in the local music scene and in Philadelphia. Through this year I gained a lot of practical experience teaching but also learned a lot about the value of patience and empathy. Also people with special needs - young and old - are more then welcome to messege me for lessons! Now I have almost lived in the Netherlands for 3 years, teaching but also intensely researching and studying music myself. I have played with amazing musicians like Dennis van Arsen, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Dystinct. Had the opportunity to play on many big stages like Ahoy or the Brabanthallen. Performed with orchestras like the Rotterdam Sinfonia or Redbull Symphonic. Toured the US and Europe and music has never been as exciting to me as it is right now and it only gets more and more fascinating. Languages: I mainly teach in English or German. (both on a certified C2 level) Maar ik ben nog volop Nederlands aan het leren, dus alle geduld en tips zijn van harte welkom. ;) My Teaching style: Together we will create a personalised routine that will help you get closer to your personal goals. We will explore what music YOU like and why It sounds so great. I will teach you how to improve your technique through specialised exercises that help you build a strong foundation in your playing (Rhythm, Sound, Harmonic and Melodic knowledge). We will also go through the basics of music theory and if you’re interested we will go even deeper. I also put a big emphasis on mental health and the state of mind while playing to keep the anxiety low and the excitement high. What kind of magic is this? All questions that are still without an answer nowadays, I am still looking for them after so many years. That’s probably why I still love doing what I am doing, the mystery is still unsolved! I hope to transmit to my student the passion for music and for playing I have. Meanwhile having a lot of fun, because playing an instrument is first of all about playing indeed, who is not enjoy doing it?! Your age is not a problem to me, from 2009 when I started teaching I had students of almost any age from 6 to over 60 years old. It’s always a good moment for playing some music! Andrea is een geduldige leraar die maar één ding wil: zorgen dat jij het naar je zin hebt terwijl je muziek speelt. Je mag zelf de muziek die je speelt uitkiezen maar je kan ook een nummer spelen die Andrea voor je uitkiest op basis van je niveau. Naast het feit dat Andrea goed is in het spelen van verschillende instrumenten, kan hij ook goed uitleggen wat er beter kan. Zo heb ik voor mijn gevoel in een half jaar flinke stappen kunnen zetten.

What can I say, barely 2 months learning to play alt sax now and already playing real songs thanks to Kevin! Excellent teacher; dedicated and patient and very good in all sorts of advice (technique, gear, style etc). What I specifically like is the approach of the learning process: Technique, reading notes/music as well as learning to listen to music and try to play it. I feel I’m getting a very good bases to become a good saxophone player in a very pleasant way. Always leave the lessons with a big smile.

Prijzen starten vanaf €22 per les van 30 minuten. Wat je uiteindelijk betaalt, hangt af van de duur van de les en de docent die je kiest. Je hebt geen abonnement voor een heel jaar: bij ons zit je een maand zonder opzegtermijn. Zo houd je zelf de controle.
Is saxofoonles geschikt voor beginners?
Ja, je hoeft echt geen noten te kunnen lezen om te beginnen. De meeste saxofoondocenten werken regelmatig met beginners en weten hoe ze de basis goed uitleggen. Het duurt even voor je de eerste tonen mooi klinken, maar dat hoort erbij. Je bouwt het gewoon stap voor stap op.
Is saxofoonles geschikt voor kinderen?
Saxofoonles voor kinderen is zeker mogelijk, al vraagt het instrument wel enige longinhoud en fysieke kracht. Veel docenten starten liever niet voor een jaar of acht à negen. Elk kind is anders, dus het is slim om dat even af te stemmen met de docent. Die kan je goed adviseren op basis van het kind.
Voor welke leeftijd is saxofoonles geschikt?
De meeste docenten beginnen met saxofoonles vanaf een jaar of acht, afhankelijk van de ontwikkeling van het kind. Maar saxofoon is zeker ook een instrument voor volwassenen: veel mensen beginnen pas op latere leeftijd en halen er enorm veel plezier uit. Er is geen maximumleeftijd.
Heb ik een eigen instrument nodig?
Voor de eerste proefles red je het vaak zonder eigen saxofoon, maar als je serieus wilt starten heb je er uiteindelijk één nodig. Huren is een goede optie om te kijken of het bevalt, zeker voor kinderen. Je docent kan je helpen bij de keuze tussen een alt, tenor of sopraan saxofoon. Vraag gerust om advies, want de ene saxofoon is de andere niet.
Welke instrumenten vallen er onder saxofoonles?
De meeste saxofoondocenten richten zich op de altsaxofoon en tenorsaxofoon, maar ook de sopraan en baritonsaxofoon komen regelmatig voor. Sommige docenten geven ook les op klarinet, dat is verwant qua techniek. Elke docent is anders, dus vraag bij de docent van jouw keuze wat precies mogelijk is.
Hoe lang duurt een saxofoonles?
Dat verschilt per docent en per leerling. Een les van 30 minuten is een gangbare keuze, zeker voor jongere kinderen of beginners. Verder gevorderde leerlingen kiezen vaak voor 45 of 60 minuten. In het profiel van de docent zie je welke lesduren beschikbaar zijn.
