Pietro Aloi

Hey there! My name is Pietro and I'm a professional jazz piano player from Italy, currently based in Amsterdam.

I've been teaching piano students of any level and age for several years. Helping my students finding their onw voice at the instrument makes me feel happy, as much as performing my music live!

Here are a few things about my studies and my experience...

I started playing piano with classical music and got my classical piano diploma at the Milan Conservatory in 2020. In the meantime, I developed a strong passion for jazz and improvisation. I completed my Bachelor’s in Jazz Piano at the Milan Conservatory in 2022, the same year I moved to Amsterdam to start my Master’s Degree in Jazz Piano at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (finished in 2024).

On top of that, I spent a semester at Temple University in Philadelphia, studying with the great pianist Bruce Barth. I also took private lessons with one of the best jazz pianists of all time, Fred Hersch.

Regarding my professional activity, I performed in several countries — including USA, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Romania — and I had participated in prestigious music festivals such as JazzMi, PianoCity Milano, JazzFest (Amsterdam) and EuropaFest (Bucharest). I'm currently an active part of the European jazz community and I regularly collaborate with some of the most prominent musicians on the European scene, including Michael Moore, Federica Lorusso, and Carlo Nicita.

I teach both basic and advanced piano in pretty much any style — classical, jazz, pop‑rock… you name it. And if you’re into improvisation and jazz, then we’re definitely on the same wavelength.

My lessons are super personalized and shaped around your level, goals, and musical taste. I put a lot of focus on your creativity, because that’s where the magic happens — but without forgetting the essentials: solid music theory and piano technique.

Music is a creative world, and teaching it is a delicate balance. I truly believe a teacher should never get in the way of a student’s personal voice. Everyone — no matter the age or experience — already has a unique musical identity, even before touching the instrument.

My goal is to help you discover and develop that identity at the piano, giving you the tools, knowledge, and guidance you need, all tailored to your interests.

Of course, like in any discipline, there are no shortcuts. Passion and dedication are key. A strong technical and theoretical foundation is essential, whatever style you love.

I teach, online, at my studio in (NDSM Amsterdam), or at the student's place (in this case, a keyboard or a piano is required).
