Johnnie Elza Zumente-Steele

Hi, my name is Johnnie and I'm a bassist from Latvia currently living in The Netherlands. Music has been a part of my life since I was little, first through classical piano and singing however I found my passion when I started playing double bass at 12 and bass guitar at 13. Currently, I'm studying jazz bachelor's in Codarts, University for the Arts. I enjoy playing various genres of music and in the last years have participated in various jazz, fusion and recently also Latin projects, and wish to pass on my love and passion for different kinds of music as well as bass guitar and double bass playing to my students.

I give bass lessons for

*beginner and intermediate levels for bass guitar,

*beginner lessons for double bass,

*children, teens and adults.

For beginner level - you can expect to learn technique for bass guitar/double bass. We'll discuss exercises, practice and play over some easy tunes.

For intermediate level, we'll discuss some technique and dive more in depth into the genres that interest you:

-For jazz/fusion/pop, we'll work on approaches to improvising, accompaniment in a band setting and playing bass lines. We'll learn melodies and themes, check out different arrangements for tunes that interest you, analyse what can be heard in recordings and talk about harmony. For jazz, we can also go more in-depth about jazz harmony.

-For Latin, we'll talk about basic accompaniment and bassists function in the band, about the form of songs and jam together to tunes.

If you are interested, we can spend some time going more in depth about theory and harmony. 

I offer beginner and intermediate level lessons in pop, fusion and jazz bass as well as beginner latin bass lessons and improvising. I can also give beginner lessons in double bass.
