Alexander Baboian

Alexander Baboian is an accomplished guitarist, composer and educator from the U.S. now based in the Netherlands. He has been described by renowned music educator Hal Crook in JazzWax as a "future major voice in Jazz," and by All About Jazz as "a superb composer, an original improviser, and an apt bandleader." He holds a bachelor's degree in guitar performance from the legendary Berklee College of Music where he was awarded the performance division achievement award twice, and master's degrees from Yerevan State Conservatory and Royal Conservatoire Antwerp as both an instrumentalist and composer. 

Alexander has appeared at major venues in America, Europe and Asia such as The Kennedy Center, The Bohemian Caverns, Scullers and MIT (US), A-Trane, B-Flat, Kunstfabrik Schlott (DE), The Music Village, The Hotclub Gent (BE), The Bimhuis (NE), Opus Jazz Club (HU), Cafesjian Center for the Arts (AM), Ogikubo Velvet Sun (JP), and All That Jazz (KR) as well as festivals such as the Washington DC Jazz Festival, JEN Jazz Conference, Beantown Jazz Festival (US), Morgenland Festival, Fusion Festival (DE), and the Goldon Apricot Film Festival (AM). His debut album as a leader Curiosity (2014) was described by All About Jazz as "an intimate, contemplative and supremely lyrical work... sonic poetry." His compositions, arrangements and productions have been performed by ensembles internationally and featured in multimedia projects. 

Improving guitar technique and understanding of the instrument, breaking down concepts of music theory, melodies, harmonies, riffs, chord progressions and rhythms, reading and writing musical notation as well as guitar tab and chord symbols, improvisation techniques and lead playing, composition, arrangement & production skills,  music technology hardware and software, repertoire preparation, class assistance and tutoring, university/conservatory and exam preparation.

Dear Music Students,

I am a guitarist, composer, and music teacher from the U.S. relocated to the Netherlands not long ago. I'm based in Delft and offering music lessons primarily at home in my cozy living room centrally located near Oostpoortbrug as well as at a second location in the new teaching studio of the renowned Max Guitar Store in Den Haag Scheveningen. I did my bachelor's in guitar performance at Berklee College of Music where I specialized in Jazz, and hold master's degrees from Yerevan State Conservatory and Royal Conservatoire Antwerp where I deepened my knowledge of Composition, Arrangement and and Electronic music production.

While my background is in Jazz my interests have always been broad and I'm happy to work with students at a variety of levels of experience, stylistic backgrounds and interests. Whether you are new to music and to the guitar and want to just learn the basics like strum the chords to some songs and play some fun guitar riffs and melodies or are already interested in more advanced techniques and challenging pieces and beginning to explore the cosmos of music theory and mastering the fretboard I'm sure with my background, education and experience that I can be a helpful resource for you.

I do understand a bit of Dutch but I don't speak well yet so my lessons are primarily taught in English. I have a parking space available at my building if you prefer to come by car, there is also parking available at the Scheveningen location.
