Hello, my name is Tullia Melandri and I am an Italian pianist. I always loved classical music and since when, as I child, I got piano lessons, piano became the centre of my life: I loved so much to go to piano lesson and practice at home, that becoming a professional pianist and a piano teacher seemed natural to me. I teach now from 20 years and I love it more and more. In my lessons, I try to make piano playing accessible to everyone, and to share the joy of making music.

I graduated in piano at the Conservatory of Rovigo in 1998. That was just the start of many years of perfectioning and playing concerts and competitions. I loved to play in the formation piano and cello, and specialized in Chamber music at the Accademia Chigiana and at the International Pianistic Academy of Imola. Later, I developed a passion for historically informed practice, and this brought me to The Netherlands to study with the fortepianist Bart van Oort at the Koninklijke Conservatorium in Den Haag. I recently also recorded a CD (Dynamic, 2019) with music of Robert Schumann played on an instrument of his time.

My method was developed during 20 years of experience and thanks to my studies of Music Pedagogy and Piano Didactics during my Master in Piano at Livorno's Conservatory. I currently work also as piano teacher in a British School and I successfully prepared several students for ABRSM and Trinity College exams. As a private teacher, I work in my studio, on a beatiful Yamaha grand piano.

My teaching is adapted to the skills and goals of each student. With beginning children, I aim at a full musical development of the student (not just playing the notes, but feeling the rhythm, singing, expressing emotions through free improvisation); technically I don't work only at the finger position, but at the organic interactionarm-wrist-fingers, through simple exercises. With adult or advanced students, I observe them, inorder to suggeston which type of repertory to work together, and which aspects of technique might still need improvement.

I teach in a classical way, through the learning of notes, harmony and written music, but I teach also how to play songs with only chord symbols and blues improvisation at a basic level.

Both with children and adults I aim at creatinf a joyful experience during the lesson, in which focus is gained in a playful way, finding each time the best pratcicing solutions to technical and musical difficulties. In this way, practicing at home becomes not another heavy duty to add to an already busy schedule, but repeating a creative, research experience, that is never the same.

Books: the use of a method is often suggested in the first years. Later I advice classical pieces to be studied. Also pop or rock somgs that the student would like to perform are well accepted, if I think the student can afford them.
