Hong Kong Tenor Francis Ng graduated cum Laude from the master programme at Codarts Rotterdam (Classical Singing), aka Rotterdams Conservatorium. An awardee of Hartman Award, he graduated with exceptional performance. Francis obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Music with First-class Honour/ cum laude at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2018, where numerous performance and academic scholarships were awarded to him. He is now a member of the studio of the Haarlem opera group The Fat Lady.

Upon his arrival in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Francis has often been invited to perform as a concert soloist. A versatile singer, he embraces a repertoire encompassing music in style of Baroque to Post-Romanticism, including J.S. Bach’s Matthäus-Passion and Johannes-Passion, masses by Mozart and Schubert, Bruckner’s Requiem, Mendelssohn’s Die erste Walpurgisnacht, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Janáčeks Otčenáš, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria and so on.

Francis is also gradually establishing himself as a young opera singer. In summer 2021 he made his operatic debut as Le Remendado in Opera Spanga’s production of Bizet’s Carmen. In 2022, he played as Nemorino from Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’amore (Opera Viva Festival, Woerden) and Nadir from Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de Perles (Opera Festa, Leiden). At the Festival Via Musica 2023 he played as Midas in the staged version of J.S. Bach’s Bachs “Der Streit zwischen Phoebus und Pan” by Apollo Ensemble. In the season 23/24, Francis portrays the role of Nemorino (Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’amore) with Operakoor Belcanto in Velsen (NL), Macduff (Verdi’s Macbeth) with Opera Festa in Leiden (NL) and Lensky (Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin) with Opera op het Hogeland in Groningen (NL).

He is a recent of award recipient of International Singing Competition of the Chamber Opera Rheinsberg Castle (Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg) 2023 and  performed the role of Don Luigino in the opera “La Molinara” by Paisiello.

About learning singing with me 

Learning to sing can feel frustrating and overwhelming, especially for beginners. It's natural to have high expectations and want to sound great right away so you can showcase your talent. But these mindsets can hold you back. They can make you feel stuck, stop your flow, and sap your energy. When you focus too much on being perfect, it often makes things harder. I have been through all of this and I know it is painful to learn with this thinking.

Let's be real—harsh teaching methods are outdated. Instead, let's approach your journey with positivity. I'll guide your first steps with encouragement, asking "How are you feeling differently now doing this?" rather than saying "You SHOULD do this, or you are wrong."

My goal is to help you find your own voice, not to make an ingenuine one out of you. I'll always challenge you to acheive more. But true growth comes with patience and empathy.

For Beginners: You are new to all of this singing thing but you are serious about it ...

You want to build a good intrument but you have no idea how. Well, we will spend a lot of some time together doing vocal exercises, personalised for you, according to your personality, your language and more. This can take a while until we start learning some songs that serve your pedagogical needs. I guide you to understand how the muscles work and I share with you what fun exercises you can do to understand your voice and your body. I offer you different technical focal points. Everyone has different needs; some have natural high notes but has weak low notes, or vice versa. Some people's voices move easier than the other. Some people have a naturally healthier way to talk but some don't. Let me show you what you are naturally good at and what we can work on to go further.

Intermediate: You know something about singing but you are lost now...

You have some form of training privately already. But you are reaching some glass ceilings that you struggle to break through and you want a new prespective. It is more than normal that after some time of study, you feel some thing is not right and your current toolbox is not sufficient anymore to solve those problems. Perhaps  after acquiring some more advanced technical vocabulary you forgot some other important aspects? Perhaps you never heard of those technical aspects before. Let's fix those problems with a new perspective. Feel free to bring the songs you need to work on or you feel stuck. And from there we address the issues one by one. Or if you need guidance in picking the songs that suit you, we can talk about it. 

You want to learn a song...

You love singing, of course. Probably you never really had training but you just love singing. You can sing reasonably fine and you want some help to guide you through the learning of a new song. Maybe you are going to surprise your partner at the wedding? Maybe you want to sing your mom's favourite classics at her birthday party? Perhaps I can check with you if you are good to go!
