Hi!

  My name is Yiannis Mitsios, i am a 26 years old musician/guitarist from Greece, and i am currently living in Rotterdam doing my masters in jazz guitar performance.

ABOUT ME:

My Passion with music and the guitar started at the age of 9 years old after going to a local music festival, saying to my parents that this is what i wanted to do. In my teen years, i started as a rock/metal/blues guitarist and thought these years i got coached by many great musicians/guitarists such as Guthrie Govan (Aristocrats/Hans Zimmer) Yiannis Papadopoulos (Scott Stapp/Award winner) and Theodore Ziras (guitar educator/youtuber). Also i had a metal band called Speed ​​Alarm and together we played  in different venues and festivals raround greece, such as the prestigious Schoolwave festival in 2012. I also got the honor of playing with the famous Greek metal band Suicidal Angels at Schoolwave festival in 2013 as a soloist with the nickname John "Paragon". 

Since 2016, i started being interested in jazz guitar and i moved to the Netherlands to study at the Conservatory of Amsterdam where i graduated in 2021. There i had the privieledge, of studying with some of the best musicians in the netherlands such as Jesse Van Ruller, Martijn van Iterson, Reinier Baas, and also played in many great projects around amsterdam. Since 2021 i moved to Rotterdam doing my Masters in Jazz guitar performace.

TEACHING:

As a teacher i will use all the experience, knowledge and the hard work i did, in order to help my students with their musical ambitions, reaching their goals and also guiding them to the right direction. All levels are welcome ;)

All the topics my guitar lessons cover are: 

Repertoire:

• Different styles of playing (Rock, Metal, Blues, Jazz, Funk, Pop)
• Guitar Solo Repertoire (Learning solos from Guitarists such in different styles)

Guitar Technique:

• Rhythm Guitar/ Strumming (Acoustic style guitar playing)
• Right/Left hand Soloing Techniques (Alternate Picking, Legato, Tapping, Sweep Picking)

Knowledge of instrument:

• Scales (Minor/Major scales, Pentatonic Scales, Modes, Advanced Scales (hexatonics, octatonic, Altered scale, Chromatic scale etc.)
• Chords (Barre chords, Major/Minor, Inversions of chords, Seventh Chords, Advanced jazz chords etc.)
• Arpeggios (Triads, Seventh arpeggios, Triad Pairs)

Accompaniment:

• Blues/Funk rhythm guitar 
• Accompaniment jazz guitar(Bass walking, Fredie Green style, Moden jazz comping)
• Basic Fingerstyle guitar
• Metal/rock rhythm guitar

Sight reading:

• Berklee books volume 1,2,3 
• Etudes for sight reading on guitar

Improvisation:

• Learning to solo over different chord progressions
• Learning to improvise over different styles of music (rock/metal, blues, jazz)
• Developing ideas
• Motivic development

EXPERIENCE:

At 16 years old i began teaching guitar at the local music school of my hometown (arta, greece) which lasted for two years and also during my studies in amsterdam i was giving private lessons to several guitar students. Now i am also giving skype lessons to students from greece so i also teach online.
