Camilla Piccolo

My name is Camilla, I’m 27 years old and Italian, and I am currently a guitar student at Codarts University in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

I'm a guitarist and singer with a very diverse background: classical music—I started with classical guitar—Brazilian rhythms—like samba!—and Mediterranean folk music, especially the music from the south of Italy, where my family is from: tarantella and Neapolitan music, which is a very melancholic and romantic genre. So from classical to pop, passing through world music genres!

I would really like to bring my experience to students, discovering what they like and exchanging musical interests, building the class around the interests of the student. I have been part of various international orchestras and residencies (Ethno gatherings), and I have also worked as a choir teacher in Lisbon, Portugal, where I lived and worked for the past four years. These experiences have really made me open to different ways of teaching, from a more formal and technical approach (exercises, hand position, voice placement) to a more informal one, starting from a spontaneous way of making music, like body percussion, collective singing, and discovering different musical genres.

My aim is to help each student find their own voice and style, have fun, and start from the student's needs!

As I am trained in different styles: classical, where I've started,  Latin and other traditional genres, that is what I play more as a musician and a student. But I can teach also pop music, I'm always ready to start from the student’s needs and from what the student likes to listen to and to play!

My approach is to begin with songs that the student brings, or understiding together which would be some nice songs to start with: listen to the, understand what is happening musically in the song, and then play together and working on the songs.

I like to teach some theory to understand the patterns that we can find in different songs and I can also give some more technical exercises to balance the study :)

**Video Lessons: It's possible to do the lesson online. We will establish a plan together lesson by lesson, having on both side the instrument and being avaiable to show positions and corrections on the guitar. The structure of the lesson remains the same, adapting the class to the needs of the student and working on songs that the student would like to discover.
