Classical guitar and ud

I started playing music at the age of 4. When I was 5 years old, I started learning classical guitar, where I took my first degree at the age of 10. After that, for 5 years I’ve been practicing by ear and I was self teaching me. At the age of 15, I attended a concert of Arabic music in Greece. At the beginning of the concert the ud player was tuning his instrument, and he played a small improvisation. When I listened to him, I knew that this was the instrument that I wanted to learn! I bought an instrument, I started lessons with him. Since then I have been going to seminars, done lessons with various teachers, and eventually this journey led me to Netherlands. I now study makam music at Codarts University.

Half self-educated

My experience in teaching started 4 years ago, when I started teaching young kids, and showing them the ud. I am half self-educated, so when I do lessons I try to inspire my students, to discover their own sound and to find what they like. After a level, I try to play like we would rehearse for a concert, so they feel creative and have fun. The lesson would have 3 parts usually. Some warm ups, practice a song or a piece of music, and an improvisation part.

For beginners usually it is mostly focused on the warm up part, since it is simple exercises that helps them to feel comfortable with the instrument.
